How to Make Candles Containers?
A variety of household containers can be adapted and used as decorative candleholders, including metal tins, bottles and jars. Before using them, check that they are watertight and, if they are I not, block any gaps or holes with mold seal to prevent seepage.
The container is essentially the mold for this type of candle, by unlike a regular mold; the wick has to be suspended into the container using a wick sustainer.
As the candles bum, the molten wax is literally 'contained', so special type of wick is required to burn off the excess wax. Choose a wire- or paper-cored wick and one with a diameter that corresponds to the size of the container. If a black deposit forms of the inside of the container, the wick is too large - extinguish the candle and do not relight it.
Safety Warning:
It is important to take care when choosing and preparing these containers. The candles become oil lamps when the wax melts and inside a container, wax become heated above its flash point and ignite. Also if you choose to use a jam jar. Badly annealed glass can shatter when heated.
Make sure that any container candles are not left unattended when burning, and always place them an a flat surface. |
