Making Stenciled Candles
Use a repeat pattern to create delicate effects. Stencils are available from most craft suppliers and they can be used to create borders or motifs.
Before you begin, check that the stencil you have chosen will cover the surface of the candle, then fix the stencil in place with tape. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and lightly coat the surface with paint. Do not worry about a smooth finish - textured effects can be attractive, especially in candlelight.
Surface Texture
Interesting and decorative textures can be molded into the surface of a candle if you use corrugated paper to line the inside of a mold with. You will need a silicon release agent, which is available as an aerosol or as a liquid. Cut the paper to fit neatly inside the mold. Try to avoid overlapping edges, as these will be visible on the finished candle. Remove the paper from the mold and apply the silicon release agent to both sides. Replace the paper in the mold, insert a wick and then make the candle. When cool, the candle will slide easily from the mold, and the paper can be peeled away to reveal the textured wax surface. |
